DOB Energy has deep foundations in Canadian oil and gas. For over 85 years, we have provided trusted insights that inform vital business decisions and support careers in energy.
Carl Nickle launched the DOB in 1937 when Canada only produced 20,000 bbls/d from Alberta's Turner Valley field. He was the writer, editor, and publisher and even delivered the hardcopy newsletter: a literal one-man show.
Nickle had the foresight to believe oil and gas would help build the West and enrich Canada. When the Leduc oil discovery in 1947 came in, it did just that. The gusher kick-started the country's nascent industry and transformed the DOB as new subscribers flooded in.
Today, our product continues to build on the foundation that excellent journalism and consistently useful information are paths to success for our members.
