CSEG Doodlespiel is an annual curling bonspiel organized by the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG), held each winter—typically in Banff, Alberta. It’s one of the longest-running and most popular social events in the CSEG calendar, blending friendly competition, networking, and social activities for geoscience professionals.

What the Event Is

  • A multi-day curling tournament where teams from across the geoscience and exploration community compete in multiple divisions.

  • Includes competitive play as well as opportunities for participants of all skill levels to enjoy curling.

  • The event combines sport with social networking, often featuring Friday night dinners, costume awards, and off-ice social activities.

Purpose & Culture

  • The mandate of the Doodlespiel is to bring industry members together, promoting fellowship, networking, and fun in a relaxed, social setting.

  • It has deep tradition in the CSEG community, with the first event dating back to 1973 and many long-time participants returning year after year.
