Significant factors include – globalization, geopolitics, the energy portfolio, emerging resource needs, technology advancements, high performance computing and Artificial Intelligence. Applied geophysics has an important role in the exploration, development and production of sustainable, affordable and reliable earth resources.

While the strategy and role of professional science and technology societies like the SEG (and the CSEG) needs to evolve, the relevance and the need is just as high today as in the past decades.
