Since the first workshop held in 2012, significant advancements have been made particularly in effective management leveraging the extensive seismic monitoring efforts as well as fundamental understanding of causal relations to both disposal wells and hydraulic fracturing operations.

This important Injection-Induced Seismicity Workshop series returns to Banff for continued discussions of state-of-the-art understanding, regulations, and management of injection-induced seismicity. With the global spread of injection-induced seismicity over the last 14 years, “best practices” have emerged including risk assessment, seismic and operational monitoring, operational protocols, and mitigation.

In Banff, recent case studies associated with hydraulic fracturing, waste disposal, carbon sequestration, and geothermal systems will be highlighted. This ongoing dialogue between academics, regulators, and industry stakeholders will continue to serve as a seminal moment in understanding of induced seismicity.

This workshop will provide a venue for the dissemination of state-of-art technology and information relating to the topic of common interest. It creates an environment where operators, academia, government regulators, NGO’s, and service organizations share information freely and under a trust environment to truly progress and come to aligned understanding of the technology needs, procedures, guidelines and regulations.

While there is a growing number of workshops and technical meetings on the topic of induced seismicity, over the past several years the SEG-SPE Injection-Induced Seismicity workshop series has established itself as a niche for a unique forum for the latest research developments, regulatory guidelines, and industry best.
